The Penn State 8v8 takes place on the campus of Penn State University with Beaver Stadium as the backdrop. A certain level of excitement is generated by just standing on the fields. The small-sided format allows teams to pull together a squad despite being between seasons and in prime vacation time. Small-sided soccer also creates a fast-paced, high scoring game that give players many more touches on the ball. All games will be played at one site and we have the ability to move to turf and indoor fields in the event of rain. New this year, Penn State players and coaching staff will be onsite to give mini-clinics between games. Competition will vary by division. All travel and recreational teams are encouraged to apply. The Tournament will be played June 28-29th. Each age group will have an easy one-day format with games being played either on Saturday or Sunday. Age groups will be determined by the division your team played in during Spring 2008. Ages U9-13 will play round robin with no playoffs. The champion will be determined using a point system. All games will be on Saturday and teams will have the option of playing a night game on Saturday night. Ages U14-19 will play on Sunday using a playoff format. These teams will also have the option of playing a night game on Saturday. All teams affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation are invited. This includes all US Club Soccer, US Youth Soccer, AYSO, and SAY teams. As we are a sanctioned event, all players must have valid player passes to participate. All teams are guaranteed a minimum of four games that will consist of 2 x 20 minute halves. Awards will be given to the finalist in U11 and older age groups. Participation awards will be given to all U9 and U10 players. Seperate awards will not be given for the winners in these age groups. The tournament is a "patch-exchange" tournament. All teams are encouraged to exchange patches after each game. Maximum roster size is 13 players. Each team is allowed up to eight guest players. All games will be officiated by one certified USSF official. Short summary of rules (please see rule section of the website for a complete listing) (1) No Offsides. (2) Keeper cannot punt or drop kick the ball past midfield. (3) Normal sized goals by age group. (4) Reduced size fields of approximately 45 x 70 yds and 35 x 50 yds for U9/U10.
